Recently, I checked out the new science-fiction series “Caprica,” the spin-off to the hugely popular “Battlestar Galactica” on the now-dubbed SyFy channel. And I noticed the interesting selection of prop cars: a Jaguar Mk2 and a Citroën DS. “Caprica” is set 58 years before “Battlestar” on a planet called Caprica, which is very similar to earth, at a time much like the present. But the technology is more advanced in many regards. Androids serve as butlers. Teenagers play with a device called the holoband, which are worn like glasses but transport the wearer into a virtual world. The show is filmed in a trippy computer graphic-enhanced version of Vancouver, where the show is filmed. It’s part Gotham and part Cloud City. The cars, however, are a blend of current models, like Smart cars, and classics. The Jaguar serves as the limousine for one of the main characters, a wealthy technology magnate played by Eric Stoltz. The Citroën DS belongs to a lawyer for a crime family on a neighboring planetRecently, I checked out the new science-fiction series “Caprica,” the spin-off to the hugely popular “Battlestar Galactica” on the now-dubbed SyFy channel.
